Lectures and Presentations
In addition to full day programs available from Project Sakinah and its collaborators,
we also offer individual lectures and presentations on a variety of topics. These
can be combined to put together a “Muslim Family Day” if desired. Customized
presentations for your community may also be arranged.
Here is a selection of our offerings:
- The Marriage Crisis in the Muslim Community. Presented by Anas
Coburn, this lecture examines a series of issues relating to marriage within the
Muslim Community today, including difficulties in finding spouses, rising rates
of divorce, the need for premarital counseling and Couplehood training. The issues
will be examined within the context of changes in American Society at large.
- Parenting in the Age of Social Media Presented by Anas Coburn,
this workshop covers the some of the impacts of social media, including the internet,
facebook, and multi-user online games on identity development and behavior in both
children and adults, with discussion of challenges these media present to parenting
and recommendations for meeting these challenges.
- Being a Real Man, A dialogue and discussion led by Anas Coburn
focusing personality types, expectations, roles, ego, gender violence and anger
management issues for young men.
- Wake Up, Speak Up, Team Up A presentation by Anas
Coburn about the issue of family violence, its types, its impacts on the parties
involved, and the actions needed. The level of talk would be appropriate for young
adults and the discussion would encourage them to play a positive role in situations
like these with themselves or with others. Our youth deal with domestic violence
victims more often in their high schools and colleges than do adults during their
daily lives in our community.
